may + june 2024 recap: atlanta, back to dallas + composting!

welp, i have fallen behind on my monthly newsletters ahaha. does anyone feel like time is absolutely not real lately? my goodness. anyways, i’m combining may and june into one consolidated lil newsletter for you. enjoy!

may: may was a pretty chill month overall. i spent a lot of time working to catch back up after my long trip to texas in april. i also made it down to atlanta for a night to see mk.gee with lynzi and christian. i took a few hikes, made it to the farmer’s market and took my first round of compost to the recycling center!!! the process is easier than i expected. i have found that with how often i cook and go through veggies, a weekly drop off works for me. this is the compost bin i have ($28) and it just stays on my kitchen countertop for easy access. i’ve noticed no bad smells because it has a charcoal filter in the lid that you replace every six months. i do recommend compostable bags because the food will start breaking down in between visits and it just helps to keep some of that smell and breakdown contained.

walk at radnor lake, farmer’s market haul, compost + recycling trip, rice cakes<3

june: i went back to dallas and spent a few days with james which was so special. we had a ton of coffee, watched a mavs game together, and went to ikea. it was my first time being in dallas for an extended period of time so he showed me around all the different neighborhoods and i got a sense of how each little pocket of has its own unique flavor. two of my favorite things were watching the sunset at the park together and going to the top of reunion tower for a full view of the city skyline. :-)

here are some not-on-instagram pics of us for my newsletter friends.

some of my favorite memories

aside from that trip, my june was pretty low key. i mostly worked a bunch and tried to stick to my routines (meal prepping, getting adequate sleep, making time for movement). here are some joyful photos from the month:

sunflowers at the library, brat latte w lynzi, chickpea salad, me omw to compost

books

i read one book over this span of time and it was just for the summer by abby jimenez. one of my absolute favorite authors. i read this book for SIX HOURS in ONE SITTING and i LAUGHED and CRIED. just amazing. if you want to read a heartwarming romance sprinkled with humor that is equally thought provoking, i can’t recommend this one enough.

concerts/music

mk.gee show with lynzi and christian in atlanta. what a fantastic time. we had sandwiches at victory afterwards and then we played uno. we stopped by chrome yellow in the morning because of course and then we ate lox bagels and went to ikea. all in all it was a 10/10 trip.

misc stuff

  • i switched from spotify to tidal after i started doing some research into different streaming services and realized that tidal pays artists roughly 3x what spotify does per play. i still plan on supporting my favorite artists by buying tickets to shows, merch, sharing their music, etc. but this feels like a choice that aligns better with my values, and so far it’s been good. the UI is nice and they have all the music i’ve searched. their algorithm is also introducing me to new music i like so that’s a bonus.

if you’re reading this, thanks for being my pal and being invested in my life. i hope you’re having a joy filled summer.

live laugh love.
